In a standard Proxy Mode configuration (sometimes referred to as "Direct Proxy Mode") where clients are configured to point at iPrism, if iPrism goes off-line, users are down till proxy settings are changed or iPrism recovers. To avoid this, a Transparent Proxy setup (i.e., using a router to send traffic to iPrism) utilizing a WCCP Router (for fault-tolerance) can be performed.
WCCP Routing provides more fault tolerance by automatically detecting iPrism as un-available, and re-routing iPrism traffic to prevent perceived network downtime by the users. This could happen, for example, in the event that iPrism is turned off, disconnected, or a software/hardware failure occurs. Please see:
